Additional information
Did you know? | Fluorite is a gem which is often bi-coloured and is known for its green, blue, purple or black colours. It can also fluoresce when seen under ultraviolet light. As it is a fairly soft gem (4 on the Mohs scale) it is rarely set into precious metal and is more likely to be used in necklaces and earrings. Although mostly mined in the US it is also mined in Germany, Switzerland, Mexico and Canada. That said, the Blue John mine in Derbyshire is the most famous location for Fluorite where, during the 19th century, it was mainly mined for its ornamental value. |
